What Chiropractors can do for a Pinched Nerve – Eau Claire Wisconsin

Chiropractic science is basically an alternative method of medicine that aims to identify and treat problems related to the skeletal nerves and muscles without using surgery or drugs. A chiropractor diagnoses the problem then applies healing techniques manually. The major focus of a chiropractor is mostly on the spine as this area is believed to be the root cause of majority of problems pertaining to musculoskeletal structure. Chiropractic’s core belief is that a person’s body has a remarkable self-healing ability and all that is needed to treat nearly all disorders is a slight manipulation.

In chiropractic cure, a pinched nerve refers to misalignment or subluxation of the spine which causes nerve pressure or nerve irritation. This may result in severe back and neck pain as well as the nerves being incapable of conveying messages to the vital body organs from the brain. This is mainly caused by improper twisting and posture of one’s vertebral column as a result of sudden turns. Also, it may be due to injuries. Pinched nerve signs include pain, numbness of feet and hands, soreness, a tingling feeling and a burning sensation in the neck, back, arms, shoulders, hands, feet or legs. Chiropractic care is the most effective treatment as it concentrates on spinal adjustments in order to promote healing.

When chiropractors come across patients who have pinched nerves, first they diagnose the subluxation by performing a detailed orthopedic, neurological and physical examination. Sometimes an X-ray could also be utilized to establish the nature and exact location of the subluxation. Then the chiropractor will make slight adjustments to the patient’s spine. The chiropractor utilizes the skill of applying particular force to the part affected and shifting it in a group direction in order to release the nerves that are locked up. These small adjustments bring back the vertebra into proper alignment. Generally, small injuries require one or two spinal manipulation sessions but for chronic subluxations, more sessions are needed. The desired result is to reinstate the pinched nerve ability to communicate from and to the brain.

Once the alignment is reinstated, chiropractors might recommend rehabilitative treatments mainly in form of lifestyle changes. Wholesome nutrition, proper and sufficient exercise, positive attitude and proper posture are some of the major forms of this precautionary line of treatment.

Chiropractic care assists pinched nerves by decreasing nerve constriction and relaxing muscles that are tight in the affected part thereby causing inflammation and pain. This is done via a spinal adjustment where the chiropractor utilizes his hands to directly apply pressure to the strained nerve. There can be numerous pressure points which the chiropractor might work on by shifting his hands in specific directions.

Although traditional medical care usually treats the part where the pain is apparent, chiropractic examines the entire body. The approach is particularly useful with pinched nerves as the pain could be felt in the leg while the injury originates from the back. Also, chiropractic care considers the overall well-being of an individual and addresses any issue that could have caused the pinched nerve.
